Among strange but purpose-built constructions of the world, the name of Spaceport America always lies in upper ranking. This is first ever made spaceport of the world and the site is depicted as “the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport”.
The shape of the Spaceport America looks similar to a huge moth. The curved wings of the Spaceport America extend alongside the reddish-brown and arid soil of southern New Mexico. This world’s first spaceport “Spaceport America” is situated in the Jornada del Muerto desert basin in New Mexico that is along west of the White Sands Missile Range of United States. It shares the border with El Paso and Las Cruces towards north with a distance 89 miles and 45 miles respectively and with Truth or Consequences towards southeast at a distance of 20 miles. on October 18, 2011, Spaceport America was legitimately confirmed open.
Virgin Galactic of United Kingdom and SpaceX of United States are the tenants of United States. Whereas, both Armadillo Aerospace and UP Aerospace are being controlled from this spaceport. On 4 April 2006, erection of the first impermanent launching facility was started at this spaceport site. During initial operations of launching spaceships, Spaceport America used this momentary structure. At that time, some of this temporary infrastructure was taken from neighboring White Sands Missile Range. Here we can say that Spaceport America is the outcome of more than two decades of attempts to boost the commercial user-friendliness of spaceflight, come to fruition in southern New Mexico.
The construction of this vast space begun in 2006, but the entire infrastructure was not available, so initially some temporary things were borrowed from the other institutions like a nearby Missile range. In the year 2007, the construction progress was not much and it was just a small slab. At the same time, some official matters were also going on with the aerospace services of the country.
In the mid of 2007, the images of the proposed plan were released for the first time. This plan was approved in 2008 and the work begun. Finally, in 2009 ground breaking ceremony was held and in the end of the year the paid yours on the facility began. The estimated budget at that time was the $198 millions. The project completed in August 2012 but the total cost was $209 million. This is consider as the landmark in the history of space sciences, so finally world as a commercial spaceport, which can be used for a number of purposes.
