Colombia that is officially called the Republic of Colombia, is a country located in the northwest of South America. In the past, the area that is called Colombia was occupied by native peoples together with the Quimbaya, Muisca and Tairona. In 1499, the Spanish arrived here and started an era of invasion and migration eventually made the Viceroyalty of New Granada. At that time, the capital of New Granada was Bogotá. 1819 was the year of getting independence from Spain. Later on, the title of “Grand Colombia” distorted with the release of two individual states of Venezuela and Ecuador in 1830. It is another story that today, Colombia and Panama are rising on the map as the Republic of New Granada. In 1858, Colombia decided to adopt federalism as the Granadine union and afterward in 1863; it became the United States of Colombia. Finally, in 1886, the Republic of Colombia was confirmed with Panama as individual state in 1903.
