Columbia – Europe and Africa

The photograph is truly a masterpiece taken by the squad on the ship that portrays the Colombia during its last mission. This was a clear day and the picture represents the beautiful separation line of Europe and Africa during the sun setting time. The marvelous aspect of the picture is that, half of the picture is in taken at night. The bright dots on the picture are the clear indication of cities’ lights.

Colombia that is officially called the Republic of Colombia, is a country located in the northwest of South America. It shares the boarders with bordered with Panama towards northwest; with Venezuela and Brazil towards east; with Ecuador and Peru towards south and with Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic and , Jamaica, it shares the maritime limits. It is a holds the status of legal and unitary republic that includes thirty-two departments.

In the past, the area that is called Colombia was occupied by native peoples together with the Quimbaya, Muisca and Tairona. In 1499, the Spanish arrived here and started an era of invasion and migration eventually made the Viceroyalty of New Granada. At that time, the capital of New Granada was Bogotá. 1819 was the year of getting independence from Spain. Later on, the title of “Grand Colombia” distorted with the release of two individual states of Venezuela and Ecuador in 1830. It is another story that today, Colombia and Panama are rising on the map as the Republic of New Granada. In 1858, Colombia decided to adopt federalism as the Granadine union and afterward in 1863; it became the United States of Colombia. Finally, in 1886, the Republic of Colombia was confirmed with Panama as individual state in 1903.

The country has been experiencing an asymmetric low-power fortified clash since 1960s. In 1990, the conflict again rose up, but since 2000 the conflict has lessened significantly. Colombia is racially assorted, the children of the local people, Spanish migrants, Africans initially brought to the country as slaves, and 20th-century colonists from Europe and the Middle East have created a miscellaneous cultural inheritance. Its major industries comprise mining, oil, chemicals, food, health related products, textile and agricultural products. Other important businesses include machinery manufacturing, forest products, electronic goods, military products, metal products, IT services and the automotive industry.
